Sites, Land, Mapping and Thermal Imagery (Available on Request)
For construction sites, land parcels and larger projects, I provide survey‑grade aerial mapping, 3D modelling and site imaging, with thermal imagery available on request for suitable jobs. Using the DJI Matrice 4E with RTK positioning and a 20 MP 4/3 CMOS mapping camera with mechanical shutter, I generate data you can measure, plan with and integrate into your existing workflows.

Typical outputs and capabilities

Orthomosaics and 2D maps – georeferenced, distortion‑corrected aerial mosaics suitable for site plans, progress tracking and stakeholder communication. With RTK fixed solutions, horizontal accuracy can reach 1 cm + 1 ppm and vertical accuracy around 1.5 cm + 1 ppm, enabling reliable measurements directly from the orthomosaic in many cases.

Digital Surface Models (DSM) and Digital Terrain Models (DTM) – elevation models derived from photogrammetry to visualise ground levels, cut/fill volumes and site topography.

3D photogrammetric models and point clouds – detailed 3D reconstructions of buildings, structures and complex sites, supporting 5‑directional oblique capture for strong façade and roof detail. Models can be delivered as textured meshes, point clouds or in common formats for CAD/BIM workflows.

Volume and distance measurements – stockpile volumes, excavation areas and linear measurements derived from mapped data, suitable for internal checks, progress reporting and client updates.

Site progress and as‑built documentation – periodic aerial overviews and 3D models that show how a site or structure evolves over time, supporting programme reviews and remote inspections.

Thermal imagery on request – for suitable projects, we can add thermal imaging to identify heat loss, moisture patterns, electrical hotspots or other anomalies where a thermal signature adds value. Thermal work is scoped per project and combined with visual RGB data where helpful.
How it works in practice

Flights are planned using dedicated survey modes (normally 3‑directional ortho for large, relatively flat sites and 5‑directional oblique for urban blocks, façades and complex structures).

The built‑in RTK module provides centimetre‑level positioning, often reducing or removing the need for ground control points on many sites.
-
Data is processed in DJI Terra with in‑camera distortion correction and RTK/PPK support to deliver clean, accurate orthomosaics, DSMs and 3D models.
-
Deliverables are provided in standard geospatial formats (e.g. GeoTIFF, LAS/LAZ, OBJ/FBX) so they can be used in GIS, CAD or BIM tools.
Thermal imaging (available on request)
For projects where a heat layer adds real value (such as plant rooms, solar arrays, electrical infrastructure or general hunting for thermal leaks) we can bring in a compatible thermal platform to capture both visible and thermal data in a single flight.

Thermal resolution – We use a professional-grade drone sensor of 640 x 512 radiometric pixels.

Thermal distance range – Usable for detailed inspections from a few metres up to several hundred metres, depending on the target size and altitude; practical working distances for building and roof inspections are typically in the 10–150 m range, with closer passes used where finer detail is required.

Temperature range – the thermal camera can operate in a wide environment and surface temperature band, down to roughly –20 °C to +150 °C as a baseline, and up to around +550 °C in extended high‑gain modes where supported by the platform.

Sensitivity – capable of detecting temperature differences of around ±2 °C (or better in controlled conditions), which is sufficient to spot common building and electrical anomalies such as heat loss, damp areas and hot connections.
